Healthcare

We have in-depth knowledge of the healthcare system and the structures and cultures that must evolve alongside the health reform to generate the greatest value from existing resources.

A bridge between strategy and clinical reality

Since 2008, we have helped the healthcare system translate visions into solutions that create tangible value in the daily lives of patients, staff, and leaders — as well as in cross-organizational and cross-sector collaboration. Our specialty lies in enabling healthcare professionals to collaborate in new constellations and achieve results together.

We build bridges between ambition, political objectives, and operational realities. We speak the language of executives about strategic goals, finances, and quality — the language of department managers about capacity and coordination — and the language of clinicians about workflows related to examination, diagnosis, and treatment.

Over the years, we have worked closely with clinicians, leaders, and researchers — following numerous patient pathways in practice. This has given us a deep understanding of both the daily realities on hospital wards and the systems in which they operate. We know the conditions and workflows across professional groups — and understand that change only succeeds when it is rooted in structure, collaboration, and practice.

Digitalization and technology are rarely ends in themselves — but they are essential to sustaining and improving the healthcare system. Our experience shows that the strongest results emerge when technology, people, and organizations are integrated from the outset into a cohesive whole.

Project examples

Emergency Department
Aarhus University Hospital (DNU)

Designed and facilitated the user-driven process “The Beating Heart” as part of establishing the new emergency department. The project brought together healthcare professionals from several hospitals to define functions, spaces, and workflows. Insights were translated into higher quality, better logistics, and improved work environments. The project also served as a testbed for new models of user engagement.

Client testimonial (translated):
“At DNU, we ran two projects: one for the future Emergency Center – ‘The Beating Heart’ – and one for outpatient care in the future. In both cases, professionals from Aarhus University Hospital, Aarhus Hospital, and Skejby participated in workshops to generate ideas on functional layout. Conceptmaking was highly skilled at engaging participants and meeting healthcare professionals where they are – in clinical reality. A combination of methods, solid preparation, and contagious enthusiasm generated strong involvement – and several departments reported that participants returned ‘energized’ with ideas and courage to tackle future challenges.

In the Project Department – responsible for the construction of DNU – our collaboration with Conceptmaking significantly increased our awareness of how to shape theSide 9 af 9
organization of DNU and define cross-functional collaboration requirements. It turned out to be less about construction than we initially thought.”

— Kaspar Bo Laursen, User Coordinator & Signe Overgaard, Project Manager – DNU Project Department

Why choose us?

We work holistically—because the most significant opportunities and challenges in healthcare rarely lie in just one place. The right solution must support political objectives,
make sense in executive KPIs, assist departmental planning, and align with operational leadership and daily clinical routines. That’s why we connect strategy, tactics, and operations into one integrated process—where ideas are tested, anchored, and scaled across silos, disciplines, and hierarchies.

Three Levels – One Cohesive Approach

A. Strategy — Set the course
We support executive teams and department leaders in setting a clear direction—from shared vision and strategy to prioritized investments and clearly defined governance frameworks. The result is strategies that enhance both the quality of patient care and the
foundation for a balanced, sustainable healthcare system.

B. Tactics – Turn Strategy into Concrete Action
We bring together key personnel from across the organization in targeted sprint processes, where ideas are tested in clinical settings before being scaled. This ensures cross-disciplinary quality, local ownership, and
visible results – fast.

C. Operational — Bring the Solution to Life
We don’t let go of a project until it works. We support implementation, follow-up, and scaling – while ensuring stability in operations as new solutions take root.

We help our
customers with

1. Strategic development and capacity optimisation

We help directors, department managers and clinicians turn vision into practice. It is about setting a new strategic direction, improving patient care and strengthening capacity utilisation — always with interdisciplinary anchoring and measurable impact.

2. Implementation and change in a complex everyday life

We help healthcare organizations bring new solutions to life — and make them work in busy and complex operations. Through close cooperation with managers and employees, we ensure that change is understood, owned and maintained in everyday life. We work systematically with follow-up, learning and cross-cutting coordination — in line with the health structural reform's focus on coherence, quality and proximity.

3. Developing and Scaling Health Technology

We work with healthcare technology companies to develop, test and anchor solutions in clinical practice. It ranges from workflows and use scenarios to clinical pilots and method development — always with a focus on creating proven impact and making the technology ready for wide deployment in healthcare.

Proprietary solutions
– Driving digital transformation

At Nexus Adapt, we’ve always been intrigued by digital nudging as a technological lever—not just for its ability to influence behavior, but for its unique power to activate the majority in addressing shared societal challenges. This is a critical key if we are to build healthier, safer, and more sustainable environments—whether in schools, hospitals, or offices.

That’s why we developed, patented, and product-matured the solutions Zurface and Light Guide—user-driven, disruptive responses to some of society’s most persistent issues:

1. How do we reduce the spread of infection—by making it easy for everyone to contribute?

2. How do we improve indoor climate and wellbeing—without relying on costly ventilation system upgrades?

3. How do we cut energy consumption—by creating transparency and engaging users in the solution?

Both solutions were co-developed with users, tested in real-world settings, and validated through Public-Private Innovation projects. Reports and detailed case studies (In Danish) are available as part of each initiative.

We are proud to have received support from Innovation Fund Denmark, Patient@Home, Odense University Hospital (OUH), Aarhus University Hospital (AUH), Randers & Grenaa Regional Hospital, Statens Serum Institut, Realdania, Confederation of Danish Industry (DI), City of Aarhus, leading universities, researchers, investors, and engaged users—who have all contributed to testing new ways of addressing society’s grand challenges. Their involvement has helped transform bold ideas into practical, scalable solutions.

Case: Zurface – IoT Nudging for Hygiene and Health
Zurface was developed in close collaboration with schools and hospitals. The solution consists of intelligent dispensers and a digital platform that guides users to improve indoor air quality by airing out rooms and wiping down high-touch surfaces.

Zurface was developed in close collaboration with schools and hospitals. The solution consists of intelligent dispensers and a digital platform that guides users to improve indoor air quality by airing out rooms and wiping down high-touch surfaces.

Selected Findings from Evaluations and Partnerships:
“The flexibility and development potential make Zurface superior to other solutions on the market. In the absence of rapid, implementable retrofitting options for classrooms and decisions on how to promote virus protection and air quality, Zurface offers a new solution that can be deployed immediately and far faster than traditional alternatives.”
— Pawel Wargocki, Professor, Technical University of Denmark (DTU)“

My clear impression is that children find it meaningful to take part in wiping their own desks and ventilating the room when CO₂ levels rise. They understand the purpose—and they want to help when it becomes a natural part of their school day.”
— Peter Pedersen, CFO, City of Aarhus

“Teachers and students can both be actively involved in surface disinfection, and before/after measurements show a significant improvement in hygiene levels. This could pave the way for reduced sick leave and better working conditions for both children and staff.”
— Aarhus Municipality, Project Steering Committee

“The intervention significantly reduced CFU counts per 10 cm². The test revealed an 86% nudging effect—meaning the system significantly increases surface disinfection frequency. Microbiological sampling confirmed that activities had a measurable impact on recontamination of critical touchpoints.”
— Odense University Hospital (OUH)/Patient@Home

“By generating data on both air quality and contamination levels, Zurface opens new opportunities to act proactively—reducing infection risk and improving health environments in schools, offices, and hospitals alike.”
— Hans Jørn Kolmos, Professor of Microbiology, University of Southern Denmark and OUH
